UTMB® Race Overview
The UTMB® festival includes several races across the Mont Blanc massif, ranging from shorter mountain events to some of the toughest ultra-distance races in the world.
UTMB®
The flagship UTMB® race is a 170km ultra-trail route circling the entire Mont Blanc massif through France, Italy and Switzerland. With over 10,000 metres of elevation gain, competitors face technical mountain terrain, changing weather conditions and demanding climbs both day and night.
For many runners, completing the UTMB® is a lifetime goal and one of the most iconic achievements in endurance sport.
Need a reliable airport transfer during UTMB week? Mountain Drop-offs provides direct, door-to-door transfers between Geneva Airport and the Chamonix Valley throughout the event.
CCC®
The CCC® is a demanding 100km race with more than 6,000m of elevation gain, starting in Courmayeur and finishing in Chamonix. Following part of the Tour du Mont Blanc route, runners pass through Italy, Switzerland and France before reaching the famous finish line in Chamonix town centre.
Courmayeur itself is well worth visiting, with excellent restaurants, cafés and mountain scenery. If you are travelling between Chamonix and Italy during the UTMB period, Mountain Drop-offs also provides private transfers to Courmayeur.
PTL®
The PTL® (Petite Trotte à Léon) is one of the toughest events in the UTMB® series. Teams of three navigate a constantly changing high-mountain route of around 300km completely autonomously, carrying their own equipment and supplies through remote alpine terrain.
TDS®
The TDS® covers approximately 145km and more than 9,000m of ascent through Italy and France. Starting in Courmayeur, the route explores more remote terrain through the Beaufortain region before returning to the Chamonix Valley.
Along the way, runners pass through villages such as Les Contamines and Les Houches, both popular summer destinations for hiking, mountain biking and alpine activities.
OCC®
The OCC® is a shorter but still demanding mountain race starting in Orsières, Switzerland and finishing in Chamonix. At 55km with significant elevation gain, it offers spectacular alpine scenery and a true UTMB® atmosphere.
MCC®
The MCC® celebrates the volunteers and local communities who help make UTMB® possible. Starting in Martigny, Switzerland, the route crosses into the Chamonix Valley before finishing in Chamonix town centre.
ETC®
The ETC® (Experience Trail Courmayeur) is a shorter event based around Courmayeur, designed for runners looking to experience the UTMB® atmosphere and mountain environment over a more accessible distance.
YCC®
The YCC® introduces younger athletes to trail running, with age-category races taking place throughout UTMB® week in Chamonix.
