Even though you are at a really high altitude, you’ll find all the shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants you need in Val Thorens, open seven days a week in season.

Vegetarians and vegans might have a hard time eating in restaurants, as there is a lot of cheese in all its forms and charcuterie too, but there are some truly sumptuous dining options, including the Michelin-starred Explorateurs at the Hotel Pashmina and highly-rated Diamant Noir.

For none-budget busting eating out, we can highly recommend John’s American Diner for, you guessed it, a decent burger. Hotel Tango’s restaurant is always popular, especially when it’s BBQ time and La Piscine at the entrance to the Sports Centre is usually good value too.

Val Thorens Institutions 

A ski holiday in Val Thorens wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the legendary apres-ski party on the slopes that is La Folie Douce. Sure, it’ll max out your credit card, but it has to be done at least once. 

Access is via the Plein Sud of Pionniers lifts and the infamous bar and restaurant sits on the Plein Sud piste. Just remember you have to ski back down! 

And in case you’re wondering whether Val Thorens is purely a party resort, fear not it’s all good for families too, with lots of activities and events for children..
