Morzine ESF Torchlit Descents

Morzine Torchlit Descent at Pléney: A Spectacular Evening Under the Stars

The torchlit descent organised by the ESF Morzine ski school takes place each Tuesday evening during the winter season on the Pléney slope above the town. As dusk falls the instructors light their torches and weave down the piste to the cheers of spectators gathered near the stadium finish zone.

The event begins around 18:00 (exact time varies with the season and snow conditions) with the meeting point at the base of the Pléney cable car. After the descent there is a free fireworks display, and visitors can enjoy a warm drink—mulled wine or hot chocolate—served by the town’s Tourist Office.

Watching the descent offers an unforgettable alpine evening: the dark slope lit by thousands of points of light, the mountain air crisp, the scene set beneath the stars and Morzine’s village lights. Whether you watch from near the finish area or from a balcony further up the slope, the atmosphere of light and mountain makes this a memorable experience.
