La Grande Odyssée in Avoriaz: Mushing Magic on Mountain Trails
The globally renowned dog-sled race La Grande Odyssée kicks off its 2026 edition in the heart of the Alps, with a prologue and full stage held in Avoriaz in the Portes du Soleil region. On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 January 2026 mushers and their teams glide into the village centre before setting off on the alpine trails, combining athleticism and mountain spectacle.
The prologue in the streets of the resort gives spectators a chance to see the sleds up close, meet the mushers and their dogs and soak in a lively atmosphere with music and lights. The following day the action moves deeper into the ski domain of Avoriaz, where teams negotiate steep ascents, tricky corners and panoramic trails across the snowy slopes of the Portes du Soleil.
Whether you’re standing near the start line in the village or following the course on the lifts and plateaus, the event offers a unique window into mountain culture, endurance sport and the bond between mushers and their dogs.
