Fête des Guides 2025

Honouring Tradition: Fête des Guides 2025 in Chamonix

From 11 to 15 August 2025, the Chamonix Valley will come alive with the Fête des Guides, a cherished tradition celebrating the legacy of the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix, the world’s oldest and largest association of mountain guides, founded in 1821.

This annual festival pays tribute to the bravery and dedication of mountain guides, featuring a variety of events across the valley’s villages, including Argentière, Les Houches, Lavancher, Servoz, and Chamonix itself. The festivities encompass:

  • Traditional Ceremonies: Commemorative events honouring guides past and present.
  • Outdoor Activities: Climbing demonstrations, guided hikes, and family-friendly workshops.
  • Live Music and Entertainment: Concerts, performances, and a spectacular sound and light show at Les Gaillands.
  • Local Cuisine: Food stalls offering regional specialities and communal meals.

The highlight of the festival is on 15 August, Assumption Day, featuring the official ceremony in Chamonix’s town centre, where new guides are welcomed, and tributes are paid to those who have served the mountains with distinction.

Proceeds from the festival support the Emergency Fund (Caisse de Secours), providing assistance to guides and their families in times of need.
